4K Remaster of Pink Floyd’s Iconic Concert Film to Hit Indian Theatres on April 26

Filmed in October 1971, Pink Floyd at Pompeii captures the band in a hauntingly beautiful setting—the ancient Roman amphitheater in Pompeii, Italy—performing a live set without an audience

Music and cinema lovers in India are in for a timeless treat as Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII, the legendary concert film by the iconic British rock band Pink Floyd, is set to descend upon Indian theatres for a limited run on April 26 and 27, 2025.

Directed by Adrian Maben, the 1972 concert film has undergone a remarkable transformation, now presented in stunning 4K resolution, digitally restored from the original 35mm negatives. Accompanying the breathtaking visuals is a new audio mix, including 5.1 surround sound and Dolby Atmos, crafted by acclaimed sound engineer Steven Wilson, promising an immersive theatrical experience like never before.

Filmed in October 1971, Pink Floyd at Pompeii captures the band in a hauntingly beautiful setting—the ancient Roman amphitheater in Pompeii, Italy—performing a live set without an audience. This raw, unfiltered concert film features legendary band members David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright at the height of their experimental and psychedelic phase. The setlist includes enduring classics such as Echoes, A Saucerful of Secrets, and One of These Days, each performed amidst the evocative ruins of Pompeii, bathed in natural and twilight light that accentuates the film’s surreal, mystical tone.

More than just a concert film, Pink Floyd at Pompeii also offers a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse of the band’s creative process. Viewers are treated to candid moments of the group recording what would become one of the most influential albums in rock history, The Dark Side of the Moon, at Abbey Road Studios in London.
The remastered re-release brings this audiovisual marvel to a new generation of fans, offering Indian audiences the rare chance to witness the fusion of architecture, atmosphere, and avant-garde music on the big screen—just as the band envisioned it over five decades ago.

Pink Floyd’s influence on music, art, and culture is profound. Often spoken of in the same breath as The Beatles, the band carved their place in history through sonic experimentation, philosophical lyrics, and immersive live shows. Founded by Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright, Pink Floyd’s early years were marked by their pioneering use of psychedelia. However, it was David Gilmour’s entry into the band—following Barrett’s tragic departure due to mental health struggles—that helped shape the band’s most enduring sound.
This 4K remaster, brought to Indian cinemas by PVR-INOX Pictures, is not merely a film screening—it is a celebration of Pink Floyd’s artistic legacy and a rare opportunity to relive the magic of their music in its most elemental form. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII promises a transcendental blend of rock, history, and cinema—an event that echoes through time, just like the band’s music.
