Gurudwara Celebrates Women’s Day

Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai Celebrates Sikh and International Women’s Day with Grand Festivities

Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai hosted a spectacular celebration in honour of Sikh and International Women’s Day, recognising the invaluable contributions of women across faiths, cultures, and communities. The event brought together distinguished guests, community leaders, and devotees to honour the spirit of sewa (selfless service), empowerment, and gender equality.

Since 2017, Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai has been organizing Women’s Day, a concept initiated by Dr. Bubbles Kandhari, where women from across the UAE come together to pray for the well-being of all mankind. This event uniquely blends spirituality and service, with women cooking and distributing free food to serve humanity—a true testament to Sikh values. Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara is also the first to commemorate all the women in Sikh history, acknowledging their immense contributions to faith and society.

The celebration was graced by Mrs. Geeta Chhabra, an award-winning poet, author, blogger, and businesswoman, as the Guest of Honour. Mrs. Chhabra delivered an inspiring address, emphasizing the role of literature, storytelling, and faith in shaping the lives of women. She highlighted the importance of resilience, empowerment, and collective efforts in building a more inclusive world.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bubbles Kandhari, Vice Chairperson of Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai, said: “Women have always played a significant role in Sikhism, from the time of Guru Nanak Dev Ji to the present day. Our Women’s Day celebrations are a reflection of our commitment to recognizing and uplifting women in every sphere of life. At Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara, we believe in equality, respect, and empowerment—not just in words but in action. This event is a testament to the strength and resilience of women who dedicate themselves to faith, family, and service.”

A Day of Devotion and Empowerment
The event featured a series of special activities, all conducted exclusively by women, including: Complete Sewa by Women: From Parkash, Nitnem, Asa Di Var, Kirtan, Ardas, Hukamnama, Rehras Sahib, Sohila, Sukhasan, Langar Vartaan, Karah Parshad, and Vartaan di Sewa, every aspect of the day’s spiritual proceedings was led by women, symbolizing equality and devotion.
Soulful Kirtan: Performed by accomplished female kirtanias, the hymns resonated with the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who championed gender equality centuries ago.

Panel Discussions and Talks: Featuring prominent women leaders, professionals, and educators sharing their journeys of success and perseverance.
Honouring Women Sewadars: Recognising their tireless contributions to the community and their role in upholding Sikh traditions.

The event concluded with Langar (community meal), prepared and served entirely by women, reinforcing the principles of humility, service, and inclusivity. Attendees left with a deep sense of inspiration, carrying forward the message of unity, empowerment, and gratitude.

Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai remains committed to promoting gender equality, social service, and interfaith harmony, making it a pioneering institution in celebrating and empowering women.
