Gaza ceasefire to take effect on Sunday morning

Israel’s cabinet approves a landmark ceasefire deal with Gaza, securing the release of hostages and allowing humanitarian aid to flow into the region.

The Israeli government has approved a significant ceasefire agreement with Gaza, aimed at securing the release of hostages held by Hamas. After an extensive cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed the framework for the deal, which is set to take effect on Sunday.

The agreement will see the release of three Israeli women held in Gaza and 95 Palestinian prisoners during its initial phase. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu assured that the deal includes U.S. support from President-elect Donald Trump, ensuring Israel’s readiness to respond in case of a breach.

“This is critical because if the second phase fails, we will have the tools to resume fighting.”

While 24 ministers supported the agreement, eight opposed it, including far-right ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, who demanded a commitment to resume military operations in Gaza after the first phase.

Hamas has resolved prior disputes and affirmed its commitment to the deal, which also includes provisions for humanitarian aid. The UNRWA is prepared to send 4,000 truckloads of aid, providing essential supplies like food, fuel, and medicine to displaced Palestinians in Gaza.

This agreement marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing conflict, balancing the release of hostages and the need for humanitarian relief.
