The 16th edition of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF 2025) is poised to once again transform the Expo Centre Sharjah into a dynamic hub of creativity, imagination, and learning. Running from April 23 to May 4, this year’s festival will feature an expansive and engaging programme that brings together over 600 interactive workshops, 85 theatrical and roaming performances, and an impressive line-up of 43 authors and illustrators from 17 Arab countries.

The theme reflects the emirate’s wider commitment to nurturing a generation of creative, knowledgeable, and forward-thinking youth.
SCRF 2025 places a renewed focus on the authors and illustrators shaping the minds of young readers across the Arab world. From science fiction and adventure to psychology and educational writing, the participating creatives offer diverse perspectives that cater to all literary tastes and age groups. The event serves as a platform for discussion panels, readings, and book signings, creating meaningful engagement between readers and creators.
The festival will also feature a host of publishers and industry professionals who specialise in children’s literature, enhancing the festival’s mission to foster dialogue, innovation, and collaboration within the publishing ecosystem.
A key highlight of this year’s edition is its comprehensive and interactive educational programme, which includes over 600 workshops curated to develop writing, drawing, scientific thinking, and problem-solving skills among children and teenagers. These sessions will be led by a distinguished group of experts and educators.
In addition to the workshops, the festival will present 85 live performances, ranging from theatrical plays and music shows to science demonstrations and roaming acts. Featured performances include “Magic in the Air,” “Marty in the Putz,” “UNKLANDIA,” and “AIR FOOT WORKS.” Roaming shows such as “Masked Wonderland,” “Winged Wonders,” “Dancing with a Robot,” and “The Nutkins and the Ducks” are also set to entertain and educate in equal measure.
A special highlight is “A Musical Evening with the Rouh Al Sharq Choir” and “The Greatest Science Show,” combining the arts and sciences in an interactive format designed to captivate young minds.
As part of its annual tradition, the festival will also host the announcement of the winners of several prestigious awards curated by the SBA, including the Sharjah Children’s Book Award, the Sharjah Children’s Book Illustration Award, the Books for Visually Impaired Children Award, and the Sharjah Audio Book Award. These accolades aim to support and recognise outstanding contributions to children’s literature and promote inclusive reading experiences.
Commenting on the launch of SCRF 2025, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority, emphasised Sharjah’s continued commitment to knowledge and cultural growth under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi and Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi.
“Sharjah firmly believes that books are fundamental in shaping a child’s development and imagination. Knowledge is the foundation for building a generation capable of envisioning and shaping the future,” Al Ameri said. He also noted the vital role played by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SBA, in overseeing the evolution of the festival to meet contemporary educational and cultural needs.
Khoula Al Mujaini, General Coordinator of SCRF, highlighted the festival’s role in creating a vibrant, interactive environment where children can explore creativity and intellect through play and discovery. “The festival embraces a thoughtfully curated programme of activities that integrate learning with entertainment, fostering discovery, creativity, and skill development,” she said.
Beyond serving young readers, SCRF is also a key platform for authors, illustrators, and publishers to connect with audiences, exchange ideas, and promote a deeper engagement with books and storytelling.
With its rich blend of educational content, creative expression, and cultural celebration, SCRF 2025 continues to elevate Sharjah’s role as a leading advocate for children’s literacy and intellectual development in the Arab world.
