The third UAE aid ship carrying 4,630 tonnes of humanitarian supplies set sail for the city of Al Arish, Egypt, destined for the Gaza Strip, as part of Operation “Gallant Knight 3” to support the brotherly Palestinian people in the Strip.
The ship, which departed from the Port of Fujairah, is carrying 4,218.3 tonnes of food, 370.2 tonnes of shelter materials, and 41.6 tonnes of medical aid, in addition to six water tanks, two septic tanks, and one diesel storage tank.
The cargo of the ship was provided by the Emirates Red Crescent, the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, and was transported by 267 trucks that unloaded their cargo onto the ship.
As part of Operation Gallant Knight 3, the UAE has launched a number of initiatives, including the establishment of two field hospitals, one inside the Gaza Strip and the other a floating hospital off the coast of Al Arish city, in addition to the establishment of five automatic bakeries. Flour has also been provided to eight existing bakeries in Gaza, and six desalination plants have been established that produce 1.2 million gallons per day, which are pumped into the Gaza Strip and benefit more than 600,000 people.
The Joint Operations Command recently launched Operation “Birds of Goodness” to airdrop humanitarian aid to isolated areas in the northern Gaza Strip that cannot be reached by land. The total amount of aid dropped so far is 486 tonnes of relief and humanitarian supplies.
Aid airdrop continues
The Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence announced the implementation of the 13th airdrop of humanitarian and relief aid carried by the UAE Air Force and the Egyptian Air Force in the northern Gaza Strip, as part of the “Birds of Goodness” operation. This comes as part of the “Gallant Knight 3” operation, a humanitarian operation to support Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The airdrops were carried out over inaccessible isolated areas in the northern Gaza Strip by two planes carrying 24 tonnes of food and relief aid. This brings the total amount of aid airdrops since the launch of the “Birds of Goodness” operation to 510 tonnes of food and relief aid.
The United Arab Emirates has doubled its efforts during the holy month of Ramadan. “Birds of Goodness” embodies the combined efforts of the UAE’s charitable institutions, including the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation (KF), the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable & Humanitarian Foundation, and other humanitarian and charitable institutions in the country.
UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy has reaffirmed the UAE’s steadfast commitment to the Palestinian people at the ministerial conference on the humanitarian maritime corridor for the Gaza Strip, which was held in Cyprus.
Dr. Konstantinos Kompos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Sigrid Kaag, the Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, and representatives of the United Nations Office for Project Services, the World Food Program and the World Health Organization, along with a number of representatives of countries and international organisations attended the programme.
Al Hashimy emphasised that under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE is committed to collaborating with all relevant international parties to ensure the swift and effective delivery of humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable civilians in Gaza.
The minister said, “This includes advocating for the activation of the maritime corridor, which would serve as a vital lifeline for the people of Gaza. The maritime corridor would expedite the delivery of essential supplies to those in dire need, particularly in northern Gaza, and provide a complementary channel alongside existing land crossings.”
Al Hashimy noted that the UAE achieved a historic precedent by sending the first ship carrying 200 tonnes of food aid to northern Gaza, in cooperation with the World Central Kitchen, and will continue to work to strengthen these humanitarian efforts to ensure that aid reaches those in need in an effective and just manner.
She emphasised that resolving the crisis requires a long-term ceasefire, a tangible plan to resume political dialogue, the achievement of a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
