UAE Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Al-Safadi, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, condemned the continued Israeli raids on the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The latest one was “the storming of one of the extremist ministers in the Israeli government,” according to UAE Foreign Ministry. “Today, members of the Knesset and extremists entered the mosque under the protection of the Israeli occupation police.”

The two ministers denounced, during a phone call, the Israeli government’s permission for the so-called flag march in occupied Jerusalem, and the accompanying “aggression against the Palestinians, extremist racist practices, and the imposition of restrictions on worshipers’ access to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and restricting the movement of worshippers in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem.”

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah and Ayman Al-Safadi stressed the need for Israel to comply with its legal obligations, and to stop the illegal measures that undermine the chances of achieving a just, lasting and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

The two ministers also stressed that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its entire area of 144 dunams, is a pure place of worship for Muslims, and the need for Israel to respect the historical and legal status existing in the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed the importance of the role of the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and appreciated its role in protecting the identity of the Arab, Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Meanwhile, the Muslim Council of Elders, under the chairmanship of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, has condemned the ongoing Israeli incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Council expressed its strong condemnation of the “Flag March” in the occupied city of Jerusalem and the accompanying aggression against Palestinians to go with the extremist and racist practices, and the imposition of restrictions on the access of worshippers to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as the restriction of movement for worshippers in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem.

The Muslim Council of Elders called on the international community to urgently compel the Israeli occupation to cease all forms of aggression against the Palestinian people and their Islamic and Christian holy sites and to respect the legal status of the city of Jerusalem by halting all illegal and illegitimate measures by the occupation authorities, including attempts to divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque spatially and temporally.

The Muslim Council of Elders reiterated its call for intensified international efforts to immediately stop the aggression on the Gaza Strip and to allow the entry of humanitarian and relief aid as well as acknowledging the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state.
