UAE, China Urge Humanitarian Ceasefire

The UAE and China have demanded the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) adopt an “actionable” resolution on Palestine….reports Asian Lite News

Permanent Representatives of the UAE and China to the United Nations have jointly called for urgent humanitarian ceasefire to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza as the UN Security Council has once again failed to agree on a draft resolution.

Ambassadors Lana Zaki Nusseibeh and Jun Zhang underlined the need for the ceasefire for adequate flow of relief aid and put an end to the raging war between Israel and Hamas.

“As we speak, Palestinian civilians continue to be killed. Children are bearing the brunt, as several US officials have stated already. Gaza is becoming a graveyard for children. No one is safe,” Chinese envoy said.

“Amidst this catastrophic situation, we emphasize the need for the Security Council to act with urgency and adopt meaningful and actionable resolution,” he added.

UAE envoy Nusseibeh, who co-initiated Monday’s meeting with China, underlined that discussions within the Council were ongoing, and nations were working to bridge their differences.

“We condemn the seventh October attacks by Hamas on Israel. We also condemned the indiscriminate attacks by Israel on the Gaza Strip. We express our grave concern that the continued detention of hostages and demand the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, as well as their safety well-being and humane treatment consistent with international law,” Nusseibeh said.

“The killing and maiming of children, attacks on schools and hospitals and the Gaza Strip and denying children access to humanitarian assistance are all very grave violations. against children”.

During the meeting, UN humanitarian officials briefed the Security Council on the dire humanitarian situation in the region. Previous attempts to pass resolutions in the Security Council have faced challenges, including two US vetoes.

The E-10, consisting of 10 non-permanent member states of the Security Council, had drafted the resolution. However, permanent Council members — the US and UK who possess veto power, opposed it on Monday during the private UNSC session.

“There is no agreement at this point,” Deputy US Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood said, but also admitted that here have been discussions about humanitarian pauses. “And we’re interested in pursuing language on that score.”

He however, said that there was disagreement within the Security Council on whether that would be acceptable.

Jewish-Arab Groups Seek Peace Declaration

More than 35 Jewish and Arab organisations on Monday issued a call for reaching a ceasefire, releasing the kidnapped hostages and promoting a political agreement that will guarantee safety, justice and freedom for the people in Gaza amid the raging Israel-Hamas war.

In a joint statement, the organisations said: “In memory of the murdered and for the sake of the living, we must work together to end the war.”

The organisations have called on the governments to strive for a stable ceasefire, within which negotiations for a political agreement will be started immediately based on mutual recognition of the right of the two peoples to self-determination.

The joint statement also called for Immediately promote a broad prisoner deal and to Immediately stop harming innocent civilians.

The Jewish and Arab organisations called upon the governor to act immediately to curb the rampant settler violence in the West Bank.

The joint statement called up to stop the persecution and oppression of Palestinian citizens of Israel and of those who express solidarity with the residents of Gaza and oppose the war.

”We have all experienced the rounds of violence. Time and time again it is evident that there is no military solution to this conflict, nor can there ever be one… The only way to stop the bloodshed is a political agreement that will guarantee security, justice and freedom for both nations.

“There are no winners in war. Only peace will bring security,” it added.
