Turkey Envisions Development Road Project Could Be Completed by 2028

The Development Road Project will span over 1,200 kilometers within Iraq, while the Turkish segment will cover approximately 1,600-1,700 kilometers…reports Asian Lite News

Turkey is optimistic that the ambitious Development Road Project, which aims to establish a connection between the Persian Gulf, Europe via Iraq, and Turkey through railways, roads, and ports, could be finished faster than initially expected, as soon as 2028, said Turkey’s Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu. He made this statement after meetings with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammed Shiya al-Sudani and his Iraqi counterpart Razzaq Muhaibas Al-Saadawi in Baghdad, Anadolu Agency reported.

The Development Road Project will span over 1,200 kilometers within Iraq, while the Turkish segment will cover approximately 1,600-1,700 kilometers. The Grand Al-Faw Port, which is part of the project and is set to be completed by 2025 at an estimated cost of $17 billion, could become the largest port in the Middle East, offering a faster and more efficient alternative to the Suez Canal. Notably, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) may also participate in the project.
