IDF Tightens Grip on Hamas

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the IDF is tightening the noose over Hamas and that the Army has destroyed several Hamas centres and rocket launching pads…reports Asian Lite News

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have in a statement said that it has entered Gaza city and a fierce fight is continuing with the Hamas terrorists.

The Prime Minister’s Office has also confirmed that the IDF has entered Gaza city. 

The Israeli Army has asked the civilian population in Gaza city to relocate to southern Gaza to avoid civilian casualties and has opened the road to southern strip for a few hours on Monday and Tuesday. 

The IDF said that 8,00,000 people have already moved southward.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the IDF is tightening the noose over Hamas and that the Army has destroyed several Hamas centres and rocket launching pads.

He added that IDF destroyed several Hamas tunnels and eliminated many terrorists within these spiralling tunnels.

Netanyahu while visiting the Tzelem base told the Israeli soldiers that they were saving the nation. 

The Prime Minister also warned the Hezbollah that if they attack Israel, the response would be much more than what was expected.

 Since the latest round of Hamas-Israel war broke out a month ago, 89 UN aid workers have been killed, which is the highest number of UN employees killed in a conflict in the history of the global organisation, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said.

In its latest situation report, the UNRWA also added on Tuesday that nearly 1.5 million people have been displaced across the Gaza Strip since October 7, nearly 725,000 are sheltering in 149 UNRWA installations across all five governorates of Gaza, including in the north.

In the last 24 hours, one UNRWA school in the north of Gaza was directly hit by strikes, resulting in one person killed and nine injured among the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) sheltering in the school, it said.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, overcrowding in UN facilities in Gaza now remains a major concern, Xinhua news agency reported.

In the Khan Younis Training Centre, where 22,000 displaced people sought shelter, the space per person is less than two square metre, and there is one toilet for every 600 people.

89 UN Aid Workers Killed

Hamas has 180 hostages

The Military Intelligence of Israel and the Israeli Security Agency (ISA) have roughly estimated that the Hamas was holding 180 hostages kidnapped on October 7.

The estimate states that 40 of the hostages were under the custody of Palestinian Islamic Jihad and 20 hostages were with other Islamic groups. 

The intelligence agencies of Israel have given this estimate to the war cabinet of Israel and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

According to information available, the Isarelis have passed on this information to the US, who are using interlocutors in Qatar for resolving the crisis.

Meanwhile, White House has confirmed that the US President Joe Biden have communicated to Israel for a ceasefire for three days in Gaza Strip to prevail upon the mediators to bring back the Israel hostages.

The US is mediating for the release of 15 hostages as a first round of diplomacy through the offices of Qatar.

However, interlocutor’s have, according to sources, involved in the talks skeptical about the Hamas political leadership being able to convince the military leadership for the release of hostages.

Most of the political leadership of Hamas, including Ismail Haniyeh, are abroad while the military leadership, including Yahya Sinwar are in Gaza Strip fighting the Israeli forces.
