UAE Foreign Minister begins 2-day India visit

UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan began a two-day official visit to India on Monday for discussions on bilateral and global issues.

The UAE’s Foreign Minister, who is accompanied by a senior-level delegation, will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during the visit, according to information provided by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

According to the MEA, the visit is a part of regular consultations between the two countries on bilateral as well as global issues of mutual interest.

India and the UAE have close ties that are founded on shared civilizations, long-standing marine trade, and active intercultural exchanges. Indians are the largest ethnic group in the UAE at 38% of the population.

Additionally, with a bilateral trade transaction of USD 68.4 billion in 2021, India is the UAE’s largest export market and trading partner. India’s imports.from the UAE stood at USD 43.04 billion, whereas the UAE’s imports from India amounted to USD 25.4 billion.

This robust relationship is further boosted by the regular high-level interactions between the governments of the two nations. On June 28, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi traveled to the UAE, where he met President and ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

EAM Jaishankar visited the UAE from October 31 to September 2, 2022, to co-chair the third Strategic Dialogue and the 14th Joint Commission Meeting alongside UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed.

India and the UAE signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) earlier in this year with the intention of boosting bilateral commerce to USD 100 billion within five years.
