US President Joe Biden on Wednesday (local time) spoke with King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud of Saudi Arabia and discussed regional developments and issues of mutual concern, including Iranian-enabled attacks by the Houthis against civilian targets in Saudi Arabia.

According to a White House statement, the President underscored the US commitment to support Saudi Arabia in the defence of its people and territory from these attacks and full support for UN-led efforts to end the war in Yemen.

Biden also noted his commitment to ensuring that Iran can never obtain a nuclear weapon and briefed the King on ongoing multilateral talks to reestablish constraints on Iran’s nuclear program.

The White House statement further said that the two leaders discussed matters pertaining to the Middle East region and Europe and agreed that their teams would remain closely coordinated over the coming weeks and months.

Both leaders further reiterated the United States’ and Saudi Arabia’s commitment to ensuring the stability of global energy supplies, the statement read.

The Saudi-led coalition launched four airstrikes on a military camp controlled by the Houthi militia in the western part of the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Tuesday at noon, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported.

The airstrikes hit the al-Hafa camp at the foot of Noqum mountain, which overlooks the whole city, the television said without providing further details.

The Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi militia has recently intensified cross-border ballistic missile attacks against the cities of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a key member of the Saudi-led Arab coalition backing the Yemeni army.

Last month, the Houthi militia launched three attacks on the UAE, killing three people and hitting an oil facility in the capital Abu Dhabi.

Earlier this month, the UAE had said that it intercepted three drones with hostile intent and destroyed those objects which penetrated the country’s airspace on Wednesday.

It came days after US military personnel responded to an inbound missile threat by Houthis on the UAE during the Israeli President’s visit to the country. This involved the employment of Patriot interceptors-coincident to efforts by the armed forces of the UAE, said White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Monday. (ANI/Xinhua)
