Global Covid caseload tops 268 mn

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 268 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.27 million and vaccinations to over 8.28 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University…reports Asian Lite News

In its latest update on Thursday morning, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 268,091,135 and 5,278,886, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 8,284,831,624.

The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 49,538,371 and 793,225, according to the CSSE.

The second worst hit country in terms of cases is India (34,656,822 infections and 473,952 deaths), followed by Brazil (22,167,781 infections and 616,251 deaths).

The other countries with over 5 million cases are the UK (10,671,538), Russia (9,722,639), Turkey (8,966,681), France (8,153,025), Germany (6,339,828), Iran (6,144,644), Argentina (5,348,123), Spain (5,246,766), Italy (5,152,264) and Colombia (5,086,381), the CSSE figures showed.

The nations with a death toll of over 100,000 are Mexico (295,605), Russia (279,280), Peru (201,450), the UK (146,444), Indonesia (143,909), Italy (134,472), Iran (130,446), Colombia (128,874), France (121,017), Argentina (116,708) and Germany (104,201).
